About Us

Hello! We’re The REcreate Agency, otherwise known as independent producers Reece McMahon & Emily Beecher! After meeting on China Plate’s ‘The Optimists’ producing course in 2020, we worked side by side as indie producers during the pandemic to support as many artists as we could, raising over £200k of direct investment during the past year. Life for freelancers is already isolating and constantly on the edge of burnout, but in this time of crisis it was even harder. Working together, we noticed how our aligned values, varied skills & styles of working complemented and enhanced each other’s practices. We realised we could achieve more together than we ever could alone. We believe we can all achieve more and boost creativity when we collaborate with care and connection.

We developed REcreate to capture this feeling; to be a place where artists, producers and projects could come to grow, whilst never losing their independence. After a year like no other, we want to lead by example with our shared values of inclusivity, generosity, connection, kindness & joy.

To us this means:

  • Inclusivity
Making space for everyone to make their best work, while celebrating difference.

Making art can be messy and complicated, often allowing us to see the world from other perspectives that aren’t our own. By being as open and inclusive as we can with our practice, we can better ensure the safety and care that is needed to hold everyone in the spaces we work in.

  • Connection
Finding common ground through curiosity and respect; making links between people possible.
When new people work together, magic can happen. By leading with connection in mind, we’re always open to finding new possibilities and ways of seeing the world.
  • Joy
Finding delight in the work and the space between us, even when it’s challenging.

Finally, we seek the empowerment of joy – not just in the artistic process but with audiences too. REcreate is a place where artists can bring hard-hitting work that addresses tough issues, but also where we acknowledge the absolute joy we’ve found in working together, creating art and sharing it.

  • Generosity
Showing up with an open heart and an open mind; facilitating others to do the same.

Generosity shouldn’t mean working for free or at industry minimums. But generosity also means showing up open-hearted and ready to try things. We encourage generosity of learning between artists and producers, a generosity of spirit that remembers everyone is there to make something great and be better.

  • Kindness
Serving others and ourselves through our time, talent and resources; remembering at the end of the day we’re all imperfectly human.
Kindness is king. After a year like no other, we need to be mindful of each other’s needs, emotions and the boundaries we need in place in order to do our best work. It’s sometimes the little things that make the biggest difference.
